I’ve been delving my hands into creating and selling courses based on the content I’ve had experience with, and I’ve even made money from doing so. The process can be a struggle, but the payoff is worth it. While this includes laying out the materials worth putting out to the public and other stuff like sales, the software/program used plays an equally important role.

Since I began, I’ve used a handful of platforms to promote my courses, but none of them hold up better than Kajabi. Today, I will be discussing what it is, how it works and my honest opinion after having used it for a while. Let’s begin!

Kajabi, an online course-building platform, is well-known for being a one-stop shop and the place to go for all your course business needs. If building and selling content for profit is your goal or forte, its outstanding variety of features and tools make it easy to get to whatever you want.

With Kajabi, you get to create courses based on your possessed skills or profession, but, since it’s an all-in-one place, there is more than it has to offer. With Kajabi’s state-of the-art automation, you can create a membership subscription, host a coaching program, or even run a podcast. You can also send newsletter e-mails directly to your customers.

Kajabi is easy to use. It’s remarkable that a platform with so many features and knowledge is still easy to use. Kajabi is a platform that I have used many times. I don’t need to know any technical jargon to use its features. Kajabi does all the coding for you. This saves you both time and effort.

Some course builders don’t have this feature, but Kajabi offers users the ability to create websites to host their content. As there is a lot of potential in selling courses, it also offers a slew of marketing and sales tools to promote them to a wider audience. This includes checkouts and payments, sales funnels, detailed analytics, and even integrations – all very useful, especially if you sell your content as products for a living.

It doesn’t stop there. Aside from making content and selling them efficiently, Kajabi has a rich library of resources and support that you can always fall back into anytime a problem arises. You can learn valuable information, improve your earning potential, and access a large database of videos and help articles.

Since its founding more than a decade ago, Kajabi has helped build more than 100k businesses, oversaw the creation of 300k+ products from courses to newsletters, and has earned a whopping $4 billion in sales. We can appreciate how popular this platform is in course-building. However, there are some glaring omissions like its expensive plans and lack of key features such as certifications.

Ever since I came across this platform, I’ve never been so glad to have Kajabi as my go-to place for promoting the skills I know and selling them to those who are thirsty for knowledge. And to know more about how much I like it, it’s better this way if we dive deeper into how it works.

Kajabi allows you to do many things.

You can either build your courses from the templates provided or create them from scratch.
You can create any type of website you like to display your content. It could be your homepage/store, your course content landing page, or a space for customers to visit. Kajabi Languages
Sell any type of product whether they be free as a bonus, charged with competitive one-time payment pricing, or as subscriptions; and
Make use of its range of marketing, reporting, and sales functions to acquire a wider reach from sales funnel blueprints to affiliates.

Kajabi is commonly used in two ways: to build products that will be marketed and sold in a uniquely personalized platform, and to simply create a website to host other types of content and solutions beyond courses.

Kajabi is the reason I personally use it. It allows me to create, host and sell content I feel confident in putting out. But, either way, its impressive capacities have created this service a leading platform for sharing new things with people from all walks of life.

Kajabi’s Pricing Plans

Kajabi currently offers three pricing options:

The Basic Plan costs just $119/month and is billed annually starting here.
The Growth Plan starts at $159/month
The Pro Plan, which costs $319/month.

With the Basic plan, you’re allowed to come up with three products and three sales funnels, create unlimited landing pages and marketing e-mails, gain up to 1000 active customers, and have the opportunity to create a website with hosting provided by Kajabi itself.

The Growth Tier allows you to explore most of the features, plus upgrades like 10,000 customers, ten administrators for one site, advanced automations and the Kajabi affiliate programme. You can also remove all Kajabi branding and from your website and courses.

Meanwhile, Kajabi Pro further expands the number of features with access to the code editor, on top of level-up upgrades like an allowance for 100 products and 100 funnels, 20,000 customers, three websites, and a total of 25 admin users.

Unfortunately, it does not currently offer a free plan. Kajabi offers a 14-day free trial on all of its plans. If you are interested in giving it a try, this is the time to do so.

Kajabi is often criticized for its high price range. Some platforms offer premium plans at half or even a quarter of the cost of Kajabi’s Basic tier. Kajabi’s premium plans can seem a little too expensive for those who have used them before. Based on my experience, however, I can empathize somewhat with Kajabi’s premium plans. It went above and beyond with its services, user experience, and pricing.

Kajabi’s Features: A Complete Breakdown

Kajabi provides a one-stop shop for all your content and business needs. And by that, I mean there’s more than what you can expect. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the platform’s key features and break each of them down one by one, starting with its course-creation service.

Course Management and Creation

Kajabi is one of the many platforms that specialize on educational entrepreneurship. But the task of course building isn’t always so easy to the point where you could take it for granted. Kajabi knows the struggles creators face. That’s why it went the extra mile to make sure everything runs smoothly, while also addressing the common issues most people can relate to. Kajabi provides a space for its users where they can create powerful courses while also having all the tools they need to expand their reach. This includes how to get more subscribers using convincing teasers and sharing what they know with unique ways to keep them coming back.

Courses as Products

According to Kajabi, products can refer to any digital course that you are bound to take. It can also refer to other forms that may, or may not, contain the usual course content. Some similar platforms simply refer to these products as courses due to their educational nature. Kajabi, on the other, knows how important the term implies – It’s not just the varying amount of knowledge put into a feasible outcome that matters, but also how well it sells to audiences everywhere.

As of this writing, Kajabi offers seven different types of products. Each is available as a blueprint, or template, that you can generate and edit right away once you’ve selected one. One of those is an Online Course in which you’re allowed to create a content-filled course with as many lessons and media files and as much information as possible. The other is, straight-up, a Blank blueprint where you can simply start from scratch and add whatever you wish to add.

Kajabi also offers other product blueprints, including the blank template and main course.

Mini-courses – for whenever you want to produce a quick, easy-to-digest course as a freebie or bonus, something to build extra value for your brand and anticipation for what’s to come
Evergreen Training – also known as Drip Courses, gives you a strategic framework that sees course lessons released periodically, preferably over a series of weeks
Coaching Program – designed by Wall Street bestselling author Brendan Burchard, lets you create an intimate 12-week program as a means to enhance your skills to the next level
Membership – This is for when all of your content needs are met in one platform that your subscribers can access at any time.
Community – for when you want to create a space where you and your members can communicate and share thoughts about your courses and more

The Course Building Process

Once you have chosen your preferred product template, it is time to start building your course. Add whatever else is needed. You can either start from scratch or adapt an existing template. The best thing is to incorporate all of the knowledge and skills that you have acquired over the years into an information-rich course.

As you navigate through Kajabi’s course builder page, you’ll get to explore a multitude of customization and editing options. You may add the title of the course as well as the sections that make up the course, upload a thumbnail or poster image that suits what you’re aiming and adjust the flow of your entire outline.

Additionally, you may upload downloadable PDFs, attach media files, utilize bulk uploads powered by cloud storage software, and add e-mail automations, among other things. You can also use Kajabi’s course creator to create clones and add announcements within your course to keep students interested.

The Course Framework

In Kajabi, the sections that comprise the course are referred to as categories, while the lessons placed under those categories are named posts. A product’s category may contain a placeholder for subtopics that are related to the main topic. The same can be said for posts, the subtopics of the primary one are replaced with lessons under each subtopic.

Kajabi allows you to add categories to the posts. This is especially useful if you have a large curriculum and want to break it down into manageable parts that your students can understand.

Kajabi allows you to choose whether the product’s contents are released periodically or simultaneously. You can choose to release the content of Drip Courses within a few days, or even one week, depending on how long you want. You may also opt for the Lock feature to block students’ access to any category unless they finish a prerequisite.

Exploring Kajabi’s Course Player

For every course, there needs to be a place where they can be presented for anyone to see, click, and go further – and an attractive one, too. Kajabi’s Course Player feature provides a platform that allows you to store and display your products to students who have subscribed. You can customize the courses and the course player to create a better learning experience.

Kajabi offers over 10 themes for default course players. In other platforms, you may notice most may have only three themes or only one in-store. Compare that with Kajabi’s wider range, all you’ll notice the difference right away. It has more options. While Kajabi may seem too expensive for many, we can still appreciate the privilege it offers us. Kajabi Languages

You can choose from any of the course theme themes and customize it as you wish. Kajabi values convenience above all else, so you don’t have to know how to code to make your course player look great. Or, if you’re better equipped with web design skills, you may opt to upload your fully-personalized theme instead!

Instructor-Student Interactions and Assessments

Communication is crucial to student success and an opportunity to earn the trust of the instructor. For this reason, Kajabi provides a variety of ways for you and your members to interact. The Community feature is one of these. You can offer it as a separate product or as part of your membership package. It functions like a social media page where you and your subscribers write, see who’s online, share posts, and make comments relating to the lessons you’ve put out. Another comes in the form of comments under every lesson – you may choose to manage, hide, or even disable them altogether.

A surefire way to keep your members engaged is through assessments, which involves creating quizzes based on the lessons you’ve taught them to stimulate their minds. There are different types of questions that you may use to create an assessment, from multiple-choice questions to paragraph fill-ins. To encourage students to do better, you may set a passing score. If not, don’t give them any pressure.

Although Kajabi’s assessment tool may be impressive, it is quite obvious that it lacks delivery. Compared to other course-building services, Kajabi seems to be one of the few that don’t offer native certification tools. I don’t mind about it as much, but for those who like to give out certificates, you may be out of luck in this one. Having this one asset in Kajabi would have been helpful to reward students easily for their achievements such as finishing the course.

Website Building Tools

Aside from course-building, another important aspect of Kajabi is its ability to house powerful yet simple tools for creating a website. Kajabi’s built-in website builder allows you to create and customize your website without having to rely on third-party providers. As expected, the platform provides free hosting on all plans to have your visions come to life!

The Kajabi website builder is also easy to navigate, although there are times when the interface can be a bit confusing. Drag-and-drop is available for the editor. However, it is not what you would expect. Instead of “drag/drop the blocks/widgets out of the menu and place them in the workspace”, you can drag sections of a page from top to bottom from the left-hand navigation menu. The workspace will then reflect the changes.

Website Design and Customization

Kajabi’s website creator allows you to choose from 14 themes (eight regular themes and six heritage themes) along with a complete set of pages. After you have chosen the right theme for your website, it is possible to customize it according to your flow and vision. Kajabi Languages

This can be done by adding or removing each page’s construction blocks. These include many types of content like text and font styles as well as media widgets, pricing and offers, FAQs and testimonials. You may even incorporate countdown widgets, fill-in forms, social media content, and even call-to-action buttons to catch the audience’s attention.

Kajabi has many other ways to customize your website. You can adjust the theme settings tab to make your website more personal or fit the needs of your business. With it, you may change the site’s default typography, icons, color scheme, or even the background of a whole page to a different color or profile.

Another option is to upload a custom theme that’s not in Kajabi’s collection, much like with Course Player. Kajabi allows you to connect your custom domain to the site you have just created. You may have an already-created default domain on the platform. However, if you want to maximize your business without Kajabi branding you can connect to a domain purchased through a third-party platform such as GoDaddy.

The Types of Pages You Need for Your Website

As already mentioned, a common Kajabi website theme is composed of pre-made pages that link to each other even as you click on them. These pages include the home page that explains the basics of your business, the library where you can store all your Kajabi content, and a place where customers can buy your products.

For every Kajabi-optimized theme, you have the option to delete or add any page you like. There are more page options for you to explore other than home and landing pages, such as a log-in page, thank-you page, 404 error screen, portfolio, FAQ, policies, opt-in pages, and a coming soon page. If you happen to have blogging as part of your specialties or skills, there is a separate blogging page that lets you compile your published posts into an archive that readers can look into at any time.

Blogging Capabilities

Kajabi’s built-in blogging function allows you to publish posts to your blog and make them visible to everyone. We all know that blogs can be used to post articles related to a variety of topics, even those that may be adjacent to one’s current skill set, right? Kajabi’s version serves much the same purpose.

Kajabi’s blog tools can be used to update your readers on products and content that you are planning to release. Kajabi Languages

It works in the same way as other well-recognized blogging platforms like WordPress. You simply type the words you want, the media files and hyperlinks you want to share and the tags you feel are more appropriate for your post. You can choose to publish the post immediately or schedule it to be published later. Although Kajabi’s blogging tool may not be as dynamic as WordPress’s, it is functional enough to be used by anyone.

Marketing, Sales, and CRM

In course management, how you market and sell your products can either make or break your brand standing. A well-designed marketing strategy will increase your chances of creating revenue and clout. Otherwise, a poorly-organized one may lead to low to zero turnouts. The process of planning how to make products as sellable as possible can be such a daunting task, and Kajabi remedies this by providing an impressive suite of marketing and sales tools designed to maximize your platform and ease your convenience. Plus, it surprisingly outdoes its other top contemporaries in this field, in my opinion!

Convenient Sales Pipelines

A well-designed sales funnel could lead to better opportunities for your business, but designing one can be quite a struggle, especially if you’re not that well-versed in marketing stuff. Kajabi’s pre-made, well-designed pipelines are ready to use and customizable. There are 14 templates in total, seven of which are default and seven for legacy templates.

Each of these is specialized for how you want to promote your products – you may give out freebies to potential subscribers to keep them enticed, showcase your courses in a way that leads them straight to the sales page, run a coaching campaign, or even hold a Zoom meeting to increase leads. Sales pipeline blueprints are a big help in generating leads and increasing traffic leading to my content, and I honestly have never been glad to be able to use them.

Kajabi’s collection selling pipelines, like other popular courses platforms, are simple and straightforward. The blueprints are automatically created for you, so it doesn’t take any special skills. A Kajabi sales funnel contains cards, which, in turn, contain pages, automations, and sequences that your customers will be greeted upon.

E-mail Marketing and Automations

Sending e-mails is a fail-proof marketing strategy that businesses of all types use, whether it be to promote new releases from musical artists or to share updates on new and on-sale items from your favorite retailers. The same can be said for courses and other learning materials – Kajabi’s built-in e-mail marketing feature helps keep your members and potential customers highly engaged with the content you’ve released.

There are two types of e-mail campaigns you might want to explore: e-mail broadcasts for whenever you want to send a single e-mail related to your courses to your subscribers (like a newsletter), and sequences where you create messages to be sent based on the user’s activity via automations. It may seem familiar to some, but it can be a time-saver for those who don’t know much about e-mail automations. Kajabi Languages

Automations generally exist to ease the burden of your duties – in this case, you wouldn’t have to manually send e-mails as you can schedule them corresponding to students’ actions. Kajabi’s email sequencing feature allows you to create messages and choose the time they should be sent. You can also tag subscribers that meet certain conditions and put them into different categories.

Campaigns and automations aside, did you know that you can also create e-mails within Kajabi? The platform has a variety of templates that you can choose and use, and its e-mail editor allows you to edit how you want it to look the same way you’d do with website pages – tweak the hierarchy of your building blocks from top to bottom, add sections, and, if you have an eye for design, switch up the color palette and upload images to further set the mood.

CRM for Managing Members

Managing individuals who are subscribed to your courses can be a pain, and even more so if the provided platform for it is unstable. Kajabi and other course management tools have functional CRM (customer relationship management) tools.

Kajabi’s CRM section (also known as People if you sign-in) allows you to monitor the activities of your members remotely. You can see who bought your products, who subscribed to your membership and track their progress. You can also see who has been inactive longer.

Check out the profile of one of your students to learn more about them. This is where you see their lifecycle or how long they’ve purchased your course, as well as detailed info including the time and date of when they first signed in. Kajabi’s People can help you see who is performing poorly and give them feedback and, if needed, some freebies to get them on the right track.

Kajabi’s CRM features don’t just stop with the People dashboard – course assessments and affiliate management are also included in the bundle. The former has been discussed in detail before, but the latter is something we are about to discover.

Kajabi Affiliate Program

As a way of expanding its reach, a successful business can recruit affiliates. Limited only to users in the Growth and Pro plans, the Kajabi Affiliate Program offers them a handful of resources needed to transform their members into trustworthy affiliates of your brand. Essentially, all it takes is for you to convince your most proactive students to join the program, and they may get a share of your earnings as a benefit!

Kajabi Affiliates will help you build a bigger following. Your chances of increasing your conversion rate and generating more clicks could be higher with Kajabi Affiliates. This one might be useful if you are already a professional in your industry. You can track and manage your affiliates, and see how they are doing. Kajabi Languages

You get to send them links to be shared, see how many clicks those links have received, track the potential sales to your products, and have the choice to kick one out if you’re unsatisfied. You can also create a customized affiliate onboarding page to further encourage your members to sign up, share announcements to boost their morale, and even generate links to any website – not just to Kajabi!

Sales, Payments and Accurate Analytics

Many course management companies take a small percentage, too much, or even half of the profits you make from selling courses. Kajabi ensures that you get the money you make from selling courses. Kajabi is my favorite platform because I can keep 100% of the revenue I make from selling my products. This gave me a tremendous morale boost, which I don’t get from other platforms.

I may understand why they had to take cuts as a means to sustain their business model, but for the edupreneurs who are eager to improve, this can be seen as a bit of a disadvantage. Fortunately, Kajabi has a solution to further let them grow, even despite the high price range. Apart from the benefit of keeping all your earnings to yourself, you can also manage how you handle refunds. Kajabi doesn’t have to be strict about this, and allows its users to make their own decisions. They can let their members access their content even after they request a refund.

Kajabi offers native integrations with the payment gateway outlets Stripe and PayPal. Because PayPal is a common method of online payment, Stripe handles credit and debit cards. Take note, though, that you may need to pay service fees to whichever payment gateway you plan to use – technically, you’d have your revenue deducted in some capacity, but not in a major way.

Want to gain in-depth insights to help improve your business? Kajabi’s reporting and analytics features are just two ways you can do this. Analytics provides ratings, charts and graphs to show how your courses are performing so far. You can also explore a variety of reporting options, including net revenue, sales performance, website views, and subscription metrics. It’s not just a rich array of features that make Kajabi stand out. The platform’s customer support has received a overwhelmingly positive response from those who have used it to do business.

For example, the hotlines for customer service are a reliable way for customers to get assistance immediately or for any questions. Kajabi’s vast library of learning materials can be used to help you if you are too shy to ask. There’s a lot of helpful stuff for us to go through, so let’s check each one out.

Kajabi’s customer service team is divided into chat support and ticket support. The chat support service, which is backed by marketing and course creation experts, can be accessed by all users, regardless of their plan type. The only difference is the time it’s available. The chat feature is only available to Basic subscribers. Growth and Pro users can access the chat feature 24 hours a days, seven days per week. Kajabi Access

Kajabi Access is one of Kajabi’s most recent offerings. It gives entrepreneurs support and guidance to help them succeed in their industry. You can add it to any existing plan at $99 per month. The price may be as steep as those of the tiers we have discussed early on in the review, but if we already know a thing or two about Kajabi’s quality, it’s that there is so much it has to offer compared to other platforms – it checks! Kajabi Access will allow you to have one-on-one conversations with Kajabi’s experts. However, this is limited to six times per year. Not only that but you’ll also be gifted with double the allowance for products and funnels, the weekly Hero Hub sessions, and early access to Kajabi’s latest products and features.

Kajabi University

Similar to Kajabi Access, Kajabi University is a jam-packed learning source geared toward guiding fresh entrepreneurs with tips and tricks on how to run a successful business. The former is achieved mainly by intimate meetings with bona fide professionals and notable upgrades. The latter achieves this by allowing you to browse through a rich library informative courses that can be enrolled in at any time. Kajabi Languages

Kajabi University’s content is broken down into specific boot camps, how-to guides sets, difficulty levels, as well as niche topics. The duration of these courses can range from a measly six minutes to four full hours worth of lessons. The courses cover a range of topics that Kajabi needs, including a guide for beginners to creating your first lesson and a series of marketing techniques hosted by real-life professionals.

Webinars, meet-ups and a Community of Heroes

Kajabi offers entrepreneurs from all walks of life a variety of outlets where they can interact with one another – and inspire each other to be at their very best. These include live and on demand webinars that feature talks and discussions from experts and distinguished guests, virtual meetups where Kajabi creators can share advice and connect, as well as exclusive access to Kajabi Heroes’ private Facebook group. Kajabi Heroes is a great example of Kajabi taking its users seriously. Not only does it take online interaction very seriously, but it also takes the literal meaning of giving them the best. Kajabi fondly dubs each customer who has channeled their efforts into success using the platform a “Hero.” Its Hero Rewards program sees any Hero receive gifts and freebies delivered straight to their door once they reach certain milestones. These include a stationery set, clothing merch, accessories such as bags, reusable cups and mugs, and even honorary badges!

Kajabi’s Pros and Cons

You may be already impressed with the number of options the Kajabi platform offers. While it has some noteworthy weaknesses and falls a bit short in terms of some aspects, those, thankfully, don’t greatly overpower its strengths. Let’s look at all of Kajabi’s pros and cons!

The Pros:

It has a sleek and well-organized general user interface, resulting in a robust and fully functional experience for those who navigate it
It’s easy, flexible, and nearly entirely intuitive to use, from website building and course creation to payment processing
It provides free website hosting and lets you build a fully functioning one. This is something that a few course management platforms can’t offer.
It houses a plethora of excellent in-house tools from marketing down to user management – this minimizes the need to integrate with third-party apps
Its customization capabilities can be used to create custom solutions that are both simple and robust.
You’d pay no service fees and it would take zero percent of your profits.
It provides a social media-esque feed where you and your members can interact and communicate with one another
It shines in its reliable customer support system and information-rich learning resource library
It prioritizes its user base community over all other features.

The Cons:

It has a higher price range compared to other course-building platforms – this is because it follows a different framework and business model that doesn’t resort to burdening the user
It does not have a native tool for recognizing students. It also lacks assessment features, such as the inability of setting the length of each question or uploading question files.
Its management feature lacks other essential and advanced tools like SMS marketing, custom tracking for affiliates, and inventory tracking
Although the interface is flexible and intuitive, there are some functions that can be difficult to use.

Alternatives to Kajabi

When I first stepped into the world of educational entrepreneurship, it took me a very thorough research period, plus skillful thinking strategies, to find the course management platform that would fit more compatibly with my skillset and needs. Since then, my course-building and marketing capabilities have expanded beyond how much skill I used to have when I was a rookie, and so it was fitting for me to move over to other services that would match my increasing demand. Now that I have gained near-expert-level skills, necessities, and budget to keep me going as an edupreneur, I’ve found a place I can call my home in Kajabi. It has been a great resource for me to connect with colleagues who are already well-established and have shared their knowledge with the rest of the world. Although Kajabi’s platform and offerings offer a great opportunity for dynamic use, it is not without its limitations. I’ve had some issues with its lack of other core and advanced tools, plus extra marketing and product management options.

The confusion with the editing layout doesn’t help either. When I explored the website editor for the first time, I assumed it used a drag-and-drop interface until I tried it out and further learned that the interface used is not what I’d expected.
